5 Perfectly Romantic and Sexy Stars!

When journalist Julie sees Andy's Ad on a utility post seeking a Wife she thinks it the most bizarre and ridiculous thing ever. So much so, that she decides to cover the neanderthal's story. When she meets him however, she is frozen with instant attraction and disbelief that such a gorgeous seemingly perfect man would need to resort to an ad to find a wife. She is also very surprised at the quality of the applicants, many of whom seem like reasonably smart, professional women. Julie and Andy hit it off instantly and Andy decides he wants Julie as his wife... after rationalizing and debating about her own circumstances, and what she can get out of this arrangement, Julie take the plunge only to fall for so much more than she expected. I'll stop here to avoid spoilers, but this book is a must read.

This book is the epitome of what a great romance should be. In the style of a crafty Nora Roberts with lots of snark and unexpected humor, Gwen weaves a perfectly awesome romance that is as hot as the best erotic tales (in good taste) with so much more. A definite must read!

Great story! Couldn't put it down!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were really developed well and the story was great.

Julie is a TV reporter and is engaged to Richard, the man of her dreams. With her wedding in just two weeks, Richard dumps her. He makes her life miserable in the span of 24 hours.

Right after Julie is dumped, she and her cameraman, Denny, hear about how some guy is advertising for a wife by hanging up flyers. They decide to check it out in case they can get a news story from it. Julie walks over to the man who is looking for a wife and sees Andy for the first time. She was expecting someone not very good looking and instead this man is gorgeous and sexy with a killer smile. Instant attraction. Andy agrees to let her do a story about him trying to find a wife. At the end of the interview process, Andy decides he wants Julie to be his wife. He offers her a proposition that Julie just cannot refuse.

The rest of the story is how they become man and wife in name only to a real married couple. There were a lot of funny, sexy and even sweet emotional scenes. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story, with a good happy ending.

A fun, quirky book

I loved this story very much, it kept me interested and I didn't want to put it down. The writing flowed nicely throughout the book.

Both of the main characters are strong. There is a little bit of mystery as we don't really know much about Andy, and he's not very forthcoming with details. There's a little bit of deceit on both sides, and some loyal friends.
Julie and Andy both learn what's important to them in life, with a few interesting plot twists.

There were a few editing issues, but not so bad that they were distracting.

I would definitely recommend this book to any romance fan.

Buy a different copy.

I'm guessing that print-scanning software was used to copy this book. Whatever the cause, a mess of letters and errata - likely, information and organizational matter from the original copy's borders - have combined with the body of the text and make for a deciphering puzzle every few paragraphs. General Books did not care to edit the copy, only to take text that was free to them in the first place and publish it in an inferior book.

Moonlight coming through the thin veil of curtains cast a pale yellow glow on the sweat-slicked bodies of the couple in the four-poster bed.

The woman's long dark hair spilled across the pillow beneath her head, while the man's hair, still damp from an earlier shower, glistened in the moonlight.

Her legs were locked around his waist.

His hands were braced on either side of her body.

The intensity of their lovemaking was, as always, made all the sweeter because their time together was so brief. But the briefness of their interlude was not because this was a secretive affair. J.R. and Katie Earle were married, and to each other. It was his job that kept them apart.

A single bead of sweat ran from J.R.'s hair and down the middle of his back, but he didn't feel it. The only thing on his mind was how good it felt to be making slow, sweet love to Katie.

Their bodies rocked in perfect rhythm—the kind that true partners know—meeting each other thrust for thrust as the heat between them grew. Like dancers caught in the spotlight of moonglow, their bodies moved in graceful passion.

That was when they'd deeded their little house to the newlyweds as a wedding present and moved to New Orleans, and that was where they were living when their grandson, Bobby, was born. Just before his second birthday, Hurricane Katrina hit. Communication ground to a halt. Cell phones didn't work. People who'd been evacuated became separated from their families. Hundreds upon hundreds of people were unaccounted for. And Katie's parents were among them.

The days of not knowing had turned into weeks of pure misery before their bodies were finally found, floating in what had once been the attic of their home.

If it hadn't been for J.R. and the knowledge that she had to stay strong for the child who needed her, Katie would have lost her mind.

They'd gotten through the tragedy together, even though there were still times when the knowledge of how her parents had died threatened to overwhelm her. But the familiarity of Bordelaise, and the comfort of living in her childhood home, had been a buffer against the pain.

J.R. knew she hated being apart from him as much as he did her, but he was afraid to tell her about the promotion, and uncertain how she was going to feel about moving to the city of her nightmares.

It was that very fear that had kept him from blurting out his news the moment he'd walked in, and it was still that fear that kept him silent as they fell asleep in each other's arms.

On the other side of town, the window-unit air conditioner on the south wall of Newton Collins's trailer house vibrated noisily as it wheezed out intermittent puffs of cool air. The living room where Newt was sitting was dark, as were most of the other homes in Bordelaise. But that was as it should be, considering it was after midnight. The only other sound in the room was the steady slapping sound of flesh against flesh as Newt pumped his erection with rock-solid rhythm.

His lips were slack, his gaze locked on the flickering light of his computer screen, which showed the innocent faces of the pretty little boys cavorting on a trampoline. That the little boys were nude was just icing on the cake.

Outside, a passing car suddenly backfired, jarring Newt's concentration. Afraid he would lose his erection, he tugged harder, which distracted his vibe even more. Despite his best efforts, his cock finally went limp. He groaned, then cursed. Now he either spent a night with frustrated dreams, or got up and did something about it.

Even though he was reluctant to leave the comfort of his trailer for the muggy heat of a Louisiana night, he could no more control the urge for satisfaction than he could understand why only pretty little boys got him off.

He dragged himself up from his recliner and began to dress. One positive note about being forty-seven years old and attracted only to little boys was that he didn't need to worry much about his appearance. Women would have been put off by his paunch, narrow-set green eyes and brown, thinning hair. He knew his chin was receding and his nose was too large for his face, but he didn't care. He had no interest in attracting women. They didn't attract him. Why bother to fight it?

By the time he was reaching for his shoes, he was already getting amped just thinking about what came next. He palmed his car keys and headed out the door.

There was an all-night quick stop near the middle of town, and from there it was only two blocks to J.R. and Katie Earle's house. However, he had no interest in the couple who lived there, other than to make sure they didn't know about his midnight runs. For Newt, it was their seven-year-old little boy, Bobby, who was the draw.

But he had to be careful to just look and not touch. He had done time in the California justice system for child molestation, but after leaving the state a few years earlier, he had managed to slip under the radar by keeping his hands to and on himself. His job as a bus mechanic for the Bordelaise School District was the perfect environment for a man with his particular tastes. He was getting paid for a specific skill with engines, with an added bonus of free looks at an endless array of little boys in the school right next door.

Once outside, he broke into an instant sweat from the heat and humidity, and promised himself that when he got to Pinky's Get and Go, he'd buy himself a good, cold Pepsi, and maybe a Snickers bar to go with it. Nothing wrong with adding a little caffeine to the titillation he was seeking.

He got into his truck and started the engine, then quickly switched on the air-conditioning as he drove out of Walker's Trailer Park. Just thinking about Bobby Earle upped his pulse.

When he got to Pinky's, he parked off to the side of the building, away from the single streetlight, and walked inside. As usual, Pinky Barton was behind the counter.

Pinky owned the store and worked the night shift. His wife, Tina, worked the day shift. They attributed their forty-year marriage to the fact that the only time they crossed paths was coming and going from the store.

"How's it going?" Pinky asked, as Newt walked inside.

"Good enough. Couldn't sleep, though," Newt said, as he took a cold bottle of Pepsi from the cooler. He stopped on the way back to the checkout counter and grabbed a can of Vienna sausages.

"Yeah, I hear ya," Pinky said. "Damn heat and humidity. Ain't good for nothin' but skeeters and gators."

Newt didn't have an argument for that.

The yellow tint of neon lights behind the counter reflected off Pinky's bald head as Newt set his cold pop and canned meat on the counter.

"Add a candy bar to that," Newt said, as he flipped a ten-dollar bill onto the counter, chose a Snickers off the shelf beside the register, tore the end off the wrapper and took a big bite while he waited for his change.

"Take it easy," Pinky said, as Newt stuffed the change in his pocket and headed for the door.

"You, too," Newt said, and walked back toward his truck.

But he didn't get in. He cast a quick glance around the area, making sure none of the local cop cars were cruising nearby, then disappeared into the shadows. By the time he got to the street where the Earles lived, he'd finished his candy and was downing the last of his pop. He paused on the sidewalk, giving the neighborhood the once-over. All the house lights were out except for a second-story window down the block.

Newt knew who lived there and that the presence of an upstairs light posed no threat. That was Carlton Weaver's house. Old Carl was a widower with a penchant for women with big boobs. If the light was on, that meant Carl was still up watching the Playboy Channel, which meant he wouldn't give a shit about what was going on outside his house.

Newt glanced up and down the empty streets one last time, then took it as a sign it was time to make his move into the alley that ran behind the Earles' white frame house.

A few yards down, he tossed the empty pop bottle and candy wrapper into a trash can, then popped the top on the can of Vienna sausages. He knew the scent was going to reach the dog in the next backyard before he did, just like he also knew that the routine he'd fostered would keep Old Sounder from...

Much Better Than the First One

This book was much better than the first in the trilogy. So much so that it almost seems like 2 different authors. Sharon Sala does seem to be either a big hit or a big miss for me. The suspense was high throughout the book. It is not often that I wish over and over again that a character would just die. But in this one I did.

Small SPOILER below:

At first I was not sure that I would be able to read a book about a young boy being kidnapped by a pedophile since I have 2 young boys myself. For those who might feel as I do, the boy is never actually molested. That made it bearable for me. The boy is well written and I think responds appropriately for a child his age, not seeming older than he was, which is a problem in many books.

The love story was not really a main element in the book. The hero and heroine were separated at the time of the kidnapping but they still loved each other. As soon as the hero gets back to the heroine all their romantic type problems are over. So if you're looking for a traditional romance here, you're not really going to get it. It is sweet when they get back together and become stronger than each is alone, but the thrust of the story is finding and saving Bobby.

The author winds the story through the POVs of several characters showing the trail that eventually leads to Bobby's rescue. It is very well done and never intrusive or abrupt when the POV changes.

I'm glad I stuck with the series after the much weaker first volume.

Torn Apart Will Make You Weep!

Sharon Sala's 2nd book of the Storm Front Trilogy is superb! You should only read it if you can handle child abuse. I was in tears near the end and hyper-ventilating prior to that. This suspense has it all and its handled well. This is definitely a stronger book than the 1st one but, I enjoyed that also. But this is vintage Sala.

J.R.; Katie and Bobby Earle are the perfect family until J.R.s job requires that the family move to New Orleans were Katie's parents died during hurricane Katrina. Although Katie came across as fragile and scared. She made a good recovery before the book ended. Their marriage problems were handled well but, it was clear Bobby was the center of this book.

Bobby was the perfect little boy, he knew his Dad was coming and he wanted his Mother. The perspective of both Bobby and his attacker were very well developed. I can only guess what it took to write this story. Details are vivid and will be remembered.

Sala is still tops to me. You feel like you're living through this with the characters and I appreciate that this cold be a stand alone book. Although events from the previous book are mentioned they don't take up a lot of time.

You have to read this book!

Too many happenstances

This is the worst book of the series. When something goes wrong there is a coincidence of why it went wrong or a happenstance that right the wrong. These coincidences are written one after another until you get tired reading almost the same thing twice or thrice. You can skip this book. Read the frist and the third and you'll save yourself some money and some time.

A perfect blend of romance, family drama and crime mystery. Love it.

I would have thought there is nothing much the writer can tell us about Mac and Tony now that they are a committed couple with two kids. I was so wrong. This 3rd book (excluding the little novelette) is such a well written account of two gay men juggling between work and two young kids, their every day struggle made harder because Mac is such a dedicated detective. Tony really shines in his unwavering love for his man and the two kids. There are times I want to give Mac a shake when his job obviously comes first but when this man does come through during those instances he places Tony and his family first, you just have to like this detective hunk just as much. This 3rd book is more about Mac and I realize that this complex character has really come a long way since he acknowledges his love for Tony in the 1st book and was forced out of the closet in the 2nd book. Their romance is even more convincing in this 3rd book as they take the very important step and sappy old me did get a bit teary eyed.

The hatred Mac faces during work from "homophobic" colleagues is very well done. I just want to scream at all those "bigoted" fools for their horrible attitudes. But there are good moments too when his senior partner, Oliver, finally shows his support. Still I wish the writer could have made it easier for Mac.

We also get to know Tony's family which is such an uplifting part of the story. Unlike other MM stories where the kids are just angels, both Anna and Ben with their daily bikerings and little childish tantrums are realistic. I love the way the writer weave the two kids so effortless into the guys' story without making parts of the story just about them. Little Anna seems to have a closure as an unfavorable aunt moves on but what about Ben. I hope the writer will give this endearing little six year old real happiness and peace too.

And now the crime mystery itself. It certainly held my attention and the thrilling part of it towards the last 25% of the story is excellent, which has always been this writer's strength. The ending is not a cliff hanger but it definitely is a promise of more to come. I hope the writer delivers soon and does make it easier for Mac. Well done Kaje Harper.

I love this world she's created

Kaje Harper is simply amazing. She has created so many worlds that you can immerse yourself in, from werewolves to police detectives, to school grounds. She never disappoints. The latest entry in the Life Lessons saga has some great moments, but I don't want to spoil the best one. Let's just say that she made me cry over something beautiful and loving, even if it kept me up till 2 in the morning because I couldn't put the story down.

Great continuation of the Life Lessons series

Great continuation of the Life Lessons series. In this book (#3), Mac is working on a case of a murdered addict and finds it ties into something much bigger. Meanwhile, he's also enjoying life as being out and having something that he never thought was possible--a loving man and a family to raise.

Like in #1 Life Lessons and #2 Breaking Cover, Kaje Harper's writing is overall smooth and immensely readable. I really like her style, especially how she slides a character's mental asides into the action and story. It's been a year since I read Breaking Cover, but it was easy to get back into the groove, and Mac & Tony are wonderful characters, so it was great to revisit them, their chemistry, and their very obvious love for each other. (This is also one of the few series with kids that I've read and like. Harper does a good job of keeping her kids realistic without being too sweet. At the same time, they don't dominate the story, nor are there times when they're just conveniently missing so the MCs can get it on. I always appreciate Harper's attention to details, consistency, and realism. The MCs do find time to have sexy times, but it's at times around family obligations.)

If I had a down point, it's that a lot of the book felt more focused on Mac and the case, so in a way, it reminded me more of a gay mystery with Mac as the lead detective, and at times Tony felt like the waiting boyfriend character that Mac could go home to and bounce ideas off of. Things change up later, especially during the last quarter, but it didn't feel as balanced between Tony and Mac as the other two books. (I still liked it, but I guess I missed more Tony Time.)

With that being said, I don't think Home Work suffers the syndrome that can hit later books in a series. I enjoyed it a lot; it adds new developments so is not unnecessary of "filler", and I would happily recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the other books.

I will say that this IS NOT a standalone book. I'm sure it could work well for you if you did dive into this one, but I strongly recommend that you check out the first book, Life Lessons, if you want to try this series. Each book is great, and you'll get all the story about how Mac and Tony meet, etc.

Very enjoyable installment, and I dug the development and progressions, both the romantic-kind, and the kind that means that Mac and Tony have more work to do, but they're so committed to each other, I'm not too worried about them.

Looking forward to book 4! But until then, I still have the 3.5 freebie short story Compensations to read. (That can be found on the author's website or on Smashwords.)

Today, David Berkowitz is now committed born again Christian but still languishes behind bars in the Sullivan Correctional Facility, in New York State. It is a maximum-security facility which houses up to 580 inmates; most of whom are incarcerated for committing violent offences, with sixty percent of them serving life sentences.

The fragrance of life & intimacy!

I absolutely love historical fiction and anything having to do with fragrances. So, the fact that the author blended both elements together was both intriguing and cleverly done. The Perfume Collector is beyond exquisite; exploring mystery, societal issues concerning women of two different period in time, and of course, the beauty of romance and how various scents come in to play with intimacy among other things.

This story was truly a journey of self-discovery, and I was intrigued by every thing it had to offer. For one, the main characters. I liked Grace. My perception of the kind of person she was grew the more I read. Her personality came off as kind, accepting, but beautiful without understanding the meaning of the word and how she embodied that within herself. And towards the end you begin to see her character experience growth and start to acknowledge things she was apprehensive about in the beginning. I was happy that the author enabled Grace to breathe in a new found air of independence and come into herself a bit more. And as for Eva, well, I was completely taken by her. As oppose to the life of Grace, Eva's was no fairy-tale She experienced the good and the ugly, and the fact that she overcame so much was just impressive.

I enjoyed the time frame and moving from one to the other, getting the chance to learn about both women and establish the connection that became quite clear early on. The whole mystery of Grace finding out about Eva and the reason for her inheritance was really well written. By the time I figured it out I wanted to shake Grace and ask, "don't you see?" But her wanting to hold on to HER truth was evident throughout the pages, and the moment she caught sight of what was really real then it all gets even more interesting.

I also felt very enchanted throughout the pages where the inspiration and mere conception of perfumes was often mentioned. The book is in fact titled The Perfume Collector so, the author definitely lived up to my expectations of bringing scents to life. Left me interpret this better (hopefully); the way in which fragrances were described so lavishly, exotically, just had me all caught up in the description. I could envision the process of mixing and creating, and even smell the scents as the scenes consumed me. Way to go Kathleen, I so want to drown myself in your other works after reading this one.

Oh, before I conclude I must mention that I enjoyed the intimate factors of the story; from the 1920's leading up to the 1950's. Everything was well transitioned, perfectly developed, and breathlessly unraveled. Eva and Grace had so much depth and they both intrigued me. I could go on and on about how wonderful this book was for me and I strongly recommend you pick this one up. That's if you're into historical fiction and intense but delightful writing. Regardless, give The Perfume Collector a chance this summer. You'll find yourself lying in a field surrounded by exotic fragrances continually filling your nostrils (Imaginatively, that is).

Poor Editing

This was a pretty good story, but the editing was so poor that I found it quite distracting. Don't they pay people to do this kind of thing? Several friends found the same problem, and one said that she bought the book based on the beautiful cover! I find one or two typos acceptable, but this was a good bit more than that.

Leaves an impression that lingers, like scent on the air

With an eye for creating and interweaving the threads of a story through the evocative and intriguing use of three classic perfumes, Tessaro manages to tell a story in multiple parts, from variant perspectives to leave an impression that lingers like scent on the air.

Introducing Eva at the end of her life, and Grace in the midst of her marital crisis: the intersection of these two stories with the rather obvious connection between the two lives is told through the story of three scents and their development: over several decades in each woman's life.

The one miss on characterization for me was in the two male characters that were prevalent in Grace's life: her husband and her Parisian Solicitor. Both could have enhanced their impact in Grace's journey with more development and strength of presence.

This is a fascinating look at the creation of perfume, and the elements that go into making that one scent that can trigger memories of those who encounter it. Additionally, Tessaro manages to make a beautifully evocative, if not particularly suspenseful story as Grace investigates Eva's past and helps to find her own new purpose in life. The story is easy to read and not particularly taxing to the reader as they are far ahead of Grace in discovering her mystery. If you have read and appreciated her books Innocence, The Debutante or The Flirt - you will enjoy this just as much.
