From the Back Cover
In the first in a dazzling new series, Lori Wilde welcomes us to Cupid, Texas, where every wish for love comes true . . .
"When it hits, you just know . . ."
Natalie McCleary couldn't believe her eyes—a lean-muscled, darkly tanned, nearly naked man stood in her path . . . and then it hit her: love. Everyone always told her it would hit like a thunderbolt, and she never believed them. But now she knew: practical, sensible Natalie was head over heels in love—with a stranger.
But ex-Navy SEAL Dade Vega wasn't about to be a stranger for long. He'd ridden into Cupid on his motorcycle, vowing to keep a promise he'd made to a military buddy. But a single glimpse of Natalie—soaking wet and unexpectedly tempting—changed his life forever.
But how can he offer her his love, when he can't even promise to stay in one place for longer than a week?

It Might Be Love, But There's Not Much Romance To It
By J. Weaver
Natalie McCleary is a descendent of on of the founders of Cupid, Texas, a town centered around love. Though she's never experienced love first hand, she's part of a committee that answers letters to Dear Cupid. As the novel starts, she is torn about how to answer one letter in particular because she's not sure whether love can truly be as strong as others say it is. The story's frame is based on her attempts to answer this letter.
Dade Vega is a former Navy SEAL who has come to town looking for his best friend and stepbrother, Red, who sent him a one-word text message that is a signal for help. He and Red had tough childhoods and have always looked out for each other. But Dade knows that not everyone else out there is trustworthy, so he doesn't want anyone to know his real purpose for being in Cupid.
When Dade first rolls into town, he stops to work on his motorcycle and Natalie rides by on her bicycle. They fall in love at first sight. Yes, at first SIGHT. They don't talk, they don't bump into each other, I don't even recall whether they actually make eye contact. They just suddenly both realize that they are as good as in love. But, a few pages later, they have each decided to fight off this supposed love (for no known reason since they knew of no actual reason to avoid each other).
I would like to say that the book was full of heavy sexual tension and the smoldering attraction between the two just burns up the pages. I'd like to, but I can't. Because other than saying they've fallen in love at first sight, the author does little else to show us why they've done it. In fact, about halfway through the novel, I just got tired of their story altogether and only bothered to read to the end so that I could find out what happened to Red. Even that turned out to be kind of disappointingly obvious (maybe not the exact details, but the gist of it).
This is the second book I've read by this author, and unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that her style just isn't for me. I think she can write pretty well, but her heroines leave me more annoyed (they're rather needy) than anything else. And that's really too bad, because her heroes are pretty delicious.

Until he appeared I never knew what I was waiting for. -Millie Greenwood
By Cherise Everhard
Natalie McCleary lives in a town named Cupid and is surrounded by true life tales of love at first sight and romance. She even writes letters as Cupid and is up to her neck in her family legacy all revolving around love and love at first sight. But she's never been in love. She isn't sure she believes in her one and only true love. That is until she locks eyes on a Harley riding stranger and then ends up renting a room to him.
Dade Vega is as jaded as can be when it comes to relationships and love. But meeting Natalie has him thinking and feeling things he has never felt nor wanted to feel before.
I really, really wanted to love this book and I almost did. I have read other reviewers remark on the not being able to buy into the whole love at first sight thing, but that didn't bother me at all. That portion of the story was believable and sweet. It's the sort of thing I read romances for. It's not every day real like, but you hope and wish it were!
What kept me from loving this book was the dialogue and then the mystery of Red and how that all wrapped up. The dialogue between characters at times seemed odd, or just not realistic. Especially some of the conversations Natalie and Dade got into... it just felt awkward to me. As for Red and the whole mystery of his disappearance and the solving of the case - it just didn't fit. I was left asking "huh?" That part of the storyline was so farfetched and just didn't fit with the sweetness and flow of the rest of the tale.
Those nitpicks aside, I didn't love this book, but I certainly enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to the next story and think this series has the potential to be wonderful.

Lost between the "covers"....
By Diane Holm
Well, this is difficult. I strive to find positive aspects in every book I review and this time out it's difficult. It felt like too much clutter, side activities that detract rather than add to the story. The self conversations seemed to be drawn out and again over done. Yes, there was a romance brewing but the pages seemed to drag on rather than pull you forward. I'm not much on sex scenes and for me a little goes a long ways but there were pages and pages of details that again seemed to detract from the semblance of a story.
In my opinion, the missing person Red aspect could have been played up more to add a better balance and believable side story. There were good story elements here, but it just didn't flow smoothly.
