Essentially Pepin!

I came late to an appreciation of Jacques Pepin's competence and teaching ability but he has become one of my favorite chefs/food writers/cookbook authors and his Essential Pepin: More Than 700 All-Time Favorites from My Life in Food is one of my favorite cookbooks, one that quickly made my very short list of must-have books, so I was delighted to see his wonderful and extensive selection of desserts in Kindle format. Sometimes I just find it more convenient to take my iPad into my kitchen, which is rather small, rather than a large print book, and I've noticed over the years that it seems to be recipes for desserts that I most often refer to.
I noticed that the publisher has included the same preview for this Kindle "just desserts" volume of Essential Pepin Desserts: 160 All-Time Favorites from My Life in Food as is available for the entire volume, almost none of which applies to this Desserts Only book, so let me give you a run-down of what you'll find.
First, do be aware that this is an interactive book which includes 13 of Pepin's marvelous videos (these come on a separate CD with the print version) that have been wonderfully interfaced in the text where appropriate, but these will not be accessible unless you are using a Kindle Fire, an iPad or perhaps other tablet app. The Mac version of the Kindle app does not support the video content. Otherwise, the book is essentially the same design as the paper version.
*****NOTE: I did find one rather huge error - the lengthy and excellent video demonstrating how to make puff pastry was somehow omitted. Every time that you click the link to watch this video you will instead be taken to the video demonstrating sweet pastry.***** Luckily, this being a Kindle rather than a paper volume, the publisher can easily rectify this but until they do I have subtracted an entire star from the rating I would otherwise have awarded. Otherwise, the book is not graphics heavy. This is not one of those cookbooks that has a full-color photo for every recipe.

Videos Do Not Open on Kindle for Mac

Wonderful book but none of the videos are viewable on a Mac. Instead there's an error message that states they exist but cannot be loaded on "your device." Your call.

It is what it is - very good!

From one of today's Master Chefs comes a comprehensive book on desserts. But, then, everything Jacques Pepin does is comprehensive.
Recommended for anyone particularly interested in desserts. For others, his Jacques Pepin Complete New Techniques might be a better choice. I think it has most, if not all, of what's in here. And it does have the 700+ pages the publisher says, while the desserts book does not.
In fact, the Kindle Edition is supposed to have videos and be compatible with iPad, but none of the videos worked for me. Have to return the book, but it's sill a 5-star book!
